Reichsfuhrer Goering watched the development of the Stukadactyl program with great interest and, with the increase of Allied bombing destroying the launch facilities for their new V1 cruise missiles, demanded that the rocket motors be fitted to the backs of pteradactyls. The extreme acceleration of the rocket motor meant that the creature’s wing bones needed to be reinforced with specially laminated plywood, and a guidance system fitted to the head.
Small, fast and difficult to detect with the crude radar systems of the day, the ptera-waffen rained down on London and other British cities from mobile launch sites throughout France and Belgium. The load out was typically high explosives or incendiary devices – the limiting factor was the light bone structure of the reptile.
Ship-mounted launch facilities brought the Pterawaffen to the shores of America causing wide-spread destruction to the dockyards along the Atlantic coast.
