18mm AB French skirmishing dragoons

One of the most requested items ever to be added to the AB catalogue has been dismounted French dragoons, and here they are:

We consider these some of Tony’s finest work to date. The much anticipated AB French dismounted Dragoons in action will be released shortly. There will be a set of four horses and a horse holder, a set of four skirmishing figures and a carbine wielding variant of code F20. All those who have signed up to the 300 Club will receive notice of these figures by e-mail as soon as they arrive with us. The official release will come shortly afterwards.

We think most of you would agree that Tony Barton's work over the past thirty years has been instrumental in raising the standard of wargaming figures in this, or any other scale.

Tony would be the first to acknowledge that his customer's enthusiastic support over the years has enabled him to continue working in the model soldier field. However recent developments have threatened to put this at risk.

It has come to our attention that several companies operating out of China have been illegally selling painted, inferior copies of AB models. These low quality knock offs result in no benefit to Mr Barton at all. Not only do they deny Tony his rightful income, they also tarnish his and Eureka's reputation for quality sculpting and casting. As the sole manufacturers of AB Napoleonics we can guarantee that we do not supply any of the Chinese companies currently selling painted 15mm Napoleonic miniatures via ebay. Therefore, if you are purchasing these figures under the impression that you are buying AB quality, we can assure you that this is not the case.

These cheap recasts represent a not inconsiderable threat to the continued viability of both the Eureka and AB brands and could very well help guarantee that new figures from AB, like the beautiful examples shown above, become a thing of the past.

28mm Wars of the French Revolution French Horse Artillery and Limbers

The Wars of The French Revolution brought the use of Horse Artillery to the fore. Created in 1792 there were two compagnies, each consisting of four 8lb guns and 2 howitzers. By 1794 when it reached its peak there were 54 compagnies, an extraordinary achievement and one that shows the regard in which this relatively new form of artillery was held.

Thanks to Gribeauval and Cornet the French artillery pieces were the best in Europe. The esprit de corps of this new arm of the Revolution was often remarked to be the highest in the army. There are two instances where gunners were reported to have mounted and charged enemy cavalry, without their guns, such was their bravery.

To celebrate these men we have produced the two main uniforms they wore and three different styles of head wear. There are a staggering number of uniforms known from the period most of which are covered by the six variants we offer. As the role of horse artillery is to be highly mobile we have provided all the crews in both foot and mounted variants, along with limbers, caissons and a würtz wagon.

We have both four and six horse teams available in walking and running poses as well as separate limbers. All limber teams were crewed by civilians, something which did cause problems at the time as the spirit of the drivers did not always match that of the gunners.

All of these items can be also be used with our previously released foot artillery figures.

Click here to view more colour images of this range.

Click here to view more details images or place an order.

28mm Jazz band and dancers

Some like it hot!

We often feel as though we never left the 20th Century and this month’s new release goes to prove it. An overwhelming favourite of the 100 Club has been this set of 28mm jazz musicians and dancers. Alan Marsh, the sculptor, is a huge fan of Jelly Roll Morton and early jazz in general. We feel that this is really reflected in the life he has put into these revellers.

The figures represent the following greats of the Jazz Age:

Trumpet - Louis Armstrong (holding instrument and singing)
Clarinet - Johnny Dodds
Trombone - Kid Ory
Piano - Jelly Roll Morton
Drums - Baby Dodds
Double Bass – John Lindsay
Banjo (six strings) - Johnny St Cyr
Singer - Bessie Smith

The dancers are all "bright young things", reflecting my interest in Jeeves and Wooster!

Despite the lovely features of the girls we are hoping that some of the talented painters out there (you know who you are), will be able do justice to Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon with these figures. If you do manage it, please send us the results and the best will be awarded a prize.

Patrick Wilson at the Virtual Armchair General has made a nightclub especially for our 1920 Jazz band. Available for a modest price as a pdf download we highly recommend this to anyone looking for a venue for the band and dancers.

Hot Jazz Special Offer

Buy the entire Jazz band, the frenetic dancers and our 1920’s Ladies of the Speakeasy, 17 figures, a piano and a set of drums for only AUD$50.00.

Click here for more details and to order.

Click here for more colour pictures of this range.
