18mm Seven Years War - French

Of the member states of the alliance against Frederick the Great of Prussia during the Seven Years War, (1756-63) it is perhaps France who came off the worst. At the start of the wars France maintained the biggest peace time army in Europe, backed by a large domestic population and the resources of a global colonial empire. As such she appeared to represent a powerful threat to Frederick in her own right, irrespective of the contributions made to the alliance by the Austrian and Russian armies. Yet most of the French forays across the Rhine into central Germany to threaten Frederick from the west invariably ended in set back and failure (battles such as Minden and Wilhelmstal), or outright catastrophe (Rossbach); while at sea the British navy destroyed French naval power fatally undermining France's hold on her colonial empire. By the end of the war France had gained nothing in continental Europe for all her excursions, and overseas most of her colonial possessions had been lost.

However, these historical disappointments will not deter the gamer and collector of 18th century miniature armies. The French army of the Seven Years War is an attractive proposition to model (the cavalry regiments are especially colourful) and it will of course fight just as well as any other army when lead by a skilled table-top general (rather than some fop who took the fancy of Madame de Pompadour!)

Our figures are intended principally for French armies operating in the main European theatre of the Seven Years War, but they can also be used to represent French units fighting in North America, the West Indies and 'European' French regiments operating in India. A reminder, if one was needed, that the Seven Years War was very much a global conflict throwing up all sorts of interesting possibilities for the wargamer.

The range includes a limited selection of artillery that is specifically French (a light battalion gun and some large field/siege pieces), but for generic Seven Years War medium calibre guns we would recommend using any of the 6pdr guns from the existing Austrian and Prussian ranges. For limbers and wagons use those listed in the Russian range.

As will be inferred from this last statement, our Seven Years War range already includes comprehensive lists of models covering the Prussian, Austrian and Russian armies. With the release of the French we are now moving on to the British.

Here are the catalogue details for the new figures in the current release -

NEW 18mm Seven Years War French
Sculpted by Mike Broadbent
300SYW400	French musketeer, no turnbacks, marching (4)
300SYW401	French musketeer, turnbacks, marching (4)
300SYW402	French drummer (2)
300SYW403	French officer (2)
300SYW404	French standard bearer (2)
300SYW405	French NCO (2)
300SYW406	Grenadier de France, marching (4)
300SYW407	Grenadier de France drummer (1)
300SYW408	Grenadier de France officer (1)
300SYW409	Grenadier de France standard bearer (1)
300SYW410	Grenadier de France NCO (1)
300SYW411	Mounted officer (1)
300SYW412	Mounted officer in cuirasse (1)

300SYW415	Hussar, in mirliton (3)
300SYW416	Hussar officer (1)
300SYW417	Hussar standard bearer (1)
300SYW418	Hussar trumpeter (1)

300SYW420	Chevau leger, in tricorn (3)
300SYW421	Chevau leger officer in tricorn (1)
300SYW422	Chevau leger standard bearer in tricorn (1)
300SYW423	Chevau leger trumpeter in tricorn (1)
300SYW424	Chevau leger kettle drummer in tricorn (1)

300SYW425	Chevau leger, in bearskin (3)
300SYW426	Chevau leger officer in bearskin (1)
300SYW427	Chevau leger standard bearer in bearskin (1)
300SYW428	Chevau leger trumpeter in bearskin (1)
300SYW429	Chevau leger kettle drummer in bearskin (1)

300SYW430	Dragoon, in tricorn (3)
300SYW431	Dragoon, in pokalem (3)
300SYW432	Dragoon officer in tricorn (1)
300SYW433	Dragoon standard bearer in tricorn (1)
300SYW434	Dragoon drummer in tricorn (1)
300SYW435	Dragoon musician in tricorn (1)

300SYW436	Cuirassier du Roi (3)
300SYW437	Cuirassier du Roi officer (1)
300SYW438	Cuirassier du Roi standard bearer (1)
300SYW439	Cuirassier du Roi trumpeter (1)

300SYW440	Mounted general staff (2)
300SYW441	Dismounted general staff (2)
300SYW442	ADC mounted and on foot - 2 figure set

300SYW450	4pdr cannon - 2 gun set
300SYW451	12pdr cannon
300SYW452	24pdr siege cannon
300SYW453	Artillery officer (1)
300SYW454	Artillery crewman (8)

Figures are sold individually unless a set is indicated.
28mm 1960-1980s American troops in MOPP gear

Since the beginning of the last century advances in science have conspired to make the battlefield more lethal than ever before. A deadly progression from the chemical agents and gasses employed during the Great War, to the first use of nuclear weapons in the final days of World War Two, and culminating in the Cold War development of a frightening array of tactical nuclear, chemical and biological ordnance. Many considered these to be weapons of last resort, but the military planners in NATO and the Warsaw Pact saw their use in the event of the Cold War turning 'hot' as almost inevitable. Serious consideration was therefore given to how men and machines might continue to successfully operate and fight in a contaminated battlefield environment.

The armed forces of the United States use the term MOPP when referring to protective gear designed for use in biological, radiological, and chemically contaminated situations. MOPP stands for Mission Orientated Protective Posture, under which there are five recognised levels of readiness / protection, ranging from MOPP Level 0 to MOPP Level 4, depending on the perceived seriousness of the threat (explained here).

The figures are all depicted wearing the M17A2 protective mask, along with hood, and are available both with and without the M1 helmet. The M1 steel helmet was phased out progressively through the 1980s, being officially replaced by the Kevlar PASGT helmet in 1985 (although still used by National Guard units until the end of the decade). The protective over garment with charcoal impregnated lining is far more comfortable than the Soviet equivalent. Classic Cold War US weaponry complete the picture - M16 assault rifles, M16 / M203 grenade launcher combinations, M60 machine guns, M72 LAW rockets, and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.

For a strictly limited period you can buy a complete set of all the figures / variants in this release for a super discounted price (See the "Protect and Survive" Deal).

There is lots of potential here for all kinds of nightmare Cold War scenarios and we would like to recommend our 1980s Soviet soldiers in NBC suits as the obvious opponents for the Americans in MOPP gear. With this in mind we have added a couple of extra special discount deals on the Soviets (see below). Just the thing, we think, for games using the Force on Force rules and their companion volume Cold War Gone Hot - both also now available from Eureka.

And if that is all a little too conventional for you, here at Eureka we always think there is something about gas mask wearing troops and zombies that always goes together!

Here are the catalogue details for the new miniatures in the current release -

NEW 28mm 1960-1980s American troops in MOPP gear
(from our Modern Wars range)
Sculpted by Kosta Heristanidis

100MOD150	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear, with M-16 assault rifle (6)
100MOD151	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear, with M-16 / M-203 grenade launcher (2)
100MOD152	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear, with M-60 machinegun (2)
100MOD153	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear, with M72 LAW rocket launcher (1)
100MOD154	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear, with Stinger anti-aircraft missile (1)
100MOD155	1960-80s US MOPP gear squad: set of all 12 figures from 100MOD150-154

100MOD160	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear & helmet, with M-16 (6)
100MOD161	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear & helmet, with M-16 / M-203 (2)
100MOD162	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear & helmet, with M-60 machinegun (2)
100MOD163	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear & helmet, with M72 LAW rocket launcher (1)
100MOD164	1960-80s US trooper in MOPP gear & helmet, with Stinger anti-aircraft missile (1)
100MOD165	1960-80s US MOPP gear squad in helmet: set of all 12 figures from 100MOD160-164

Figures are sold individually unless a set is indicated.
15mm Science-Fiction Alien Infantry - Ventaurans

Like the 15mm Sci-Fi Germans, the Ventaurans are a successful 300 Club project (the Eureka custom miniature pre-order service). One of our enterprising 300 Club members contacted Chub Pearson at Denizen Miniatures in the UK who very kindly gave his permission to allow us to reproduce his Ventauran designs in 15mm. Sculptor Mike Broadbent (already a fan of the original 25mm Denizen range) was only too happy to tackle the project and we think he has done a lovely job.

As you would expect there is futuristic weaponry and full body blast armour aplenty here! Lots of figure variants carrying the standard "assault rifle", supplemented by a section / squad automatic support weapon, a fearsome looking heavy auto cannon, and a two figure anti-armour weapon set. There is also an officer and a communications (Comms) figure. There are all sorts of 15mm sci-fi battle games systems out there in hyperspace that are crying out for these - such as Future War Commander (Specialist Military Publishing). Alternatively, if you prefer playing skirmish games with 15mm figures (rather than the larger scales) there is GZG's venerable but still excellent Stargrunt rules, or check out the exciting new Tomorrow's War (from the Ambush Alley team who brought you the Force on Force rules).

We would like to thank Mr Pearson very much for this opportunity to work alongside him, and if 15mm is not your preferred figure size for sci-fi gaming we would highly recommend you check out the original 25mm figures at Denizen Miniatures.

We currently have another 300 Club request for 15mm versions of some more of Chub's work (the Federation troops) and if you would like to see these put into production you can express an interest by pre-ordering here.

Here are the catalogue details for the new miniatures in the current release -

NEW 15mm Science-Fiction Infantry - Ventaurans
Sculpted by Mike Broadbent
300SCI10	Ventauran trooper with assault rifle (8)
300SCI11	Ventauran trooper with Section Automatic Weapon SAW (1)
300SCI12	Ventauran trooper officer (1)
300SCI13	Ventauran trooper team with Light Anti-armour Weapon LAW - 2 figure set
300SCI14	Ventauran trooper with Auto Cannon (1)
300SCI15	Ventauran trooper, comms (1)

Figures are sold individually unless a set is indicated.
