| 28mm Modern Afghans and British | From Kosta Heristanidis and Alan Marsh come a platoon of British for Helmand Province and Afghans on motorbikes, both civilian and guerrillas.
28mm Modern British Infantry
Everything you need to field a platoon of 28mm modern British troops is now available from Eureka Miniatures.
These are representative of British troops operating in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, the overall deployment of which was called Operation Herrick (which spanned the years 2002-2014). The British training presence in Afghanistan post-2014 is codenamed Operation Toral.
This range is sculpted by Kosta Heristanidis, and we'd like to thank noted military author Leigh Neville for his kind assistance while researching these figures. Leigh's can be found on Twitter. Leigh's Twitter page
Three 4-man fire-teams are available (firing, advancing and patrolling) each with two L85A1 armed soldiers, as well as one man armed with the Minimi LMG, and one man with an Underslung Grenade Launcher equipped L85 rifle.
As well as the fire-teams, we have a sniper with an L115A3 sniper rifle, and his spotter, a radioman/NCO figure, and a light mortar-man with 51mm mortar.
Enhanced force protection is provided by a soldier with an ECM (electronic counter-measures) backpack, and a soldier sweeping for mines.
These new sets represent troops as they appeared between 2006-2010 and as such they're equipped with the older Mk6A helmets and Osprey Mk2 plate carriers, and can be painted in desert DPM schemes.
28mm Afghan guerrillas, and civilian families on dirt-bikes.
Motorcycles and dirt-bikes have been a staple of Afghan civilian life since the 1970's.
Reliability and relative cheapness, as well as their ability to traverse rough Afghan roads has seen them in constant use both with civilians and armed groups.
Kosta Heristanidis sculpted the generic 1980's style Japanese dirtbike (which is useful for Afghan scenarios from the Soviet-Afghan war all the way up to today) as well as the guerillas.
Unarmed informants, known as 'dickers' to Western forces, keep an eye on Coalition strength and movements, and report back to militants, who then ride to the battle area on these nimble vehicles, so this set is perfect for depicting guerrillas in transit to ambush sites or travelling in force.
The phenomena of an entire Afghan families somehow balancing on a single bike has been beautifully depicted by sculptor Alan Marsh. We have two such groups in miniature as part of our civilian range.
