Flank company, marching, shako cords, plume

The British infantry battalion's elite flank companies, Light and Grenadier, respectively, provided critical skirmishing and assault capabilities that distinguished them in the line of battle from their battalion's centre companies.The British Waterloo Line Infantry uniform included a red wool tunic, gray campaign trousers, and the iconic 1812 "Waterloo" or "Belgic" shako, crafted in black felt. This shako featured a black leather peak and a red or green plume on the left for the Grenadier and Flank companies, respectively. This headwear was also adorned with white cords for enlisted ranks, gold for officers, and a plate with the Royal cipher "GR" with the regimental number beneath.
