Grenadier, marching, campaign dress
After 1808 grenadier companies were made up of the tallest and most experienced soldiers, who had served with distinction, often having completed two significant campaigns like Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena, or Friedland. With the Grenadier company being placed on the honoured right flank of the battalion in line formation, the stature and bravery of these men were celebrated in ways that encouraged emulation.
